| Geographic Range: | woodland habitats (coniferous and broadleaved), damp, marshy habitats and areas in close proximity to water in north Eurasia from Scandinavia, Poland, N Austria, and S Czech Republic, east to the Yenisei River and south to Ukraine, N Kazakhstan, N China and possibly adjacent parts of Mongolia |
| Diet: | feed on a variety of tree, shrub and herb leaves, twigs, bark and aquatic vegetation is also taken |
| Behaviour: | essentially solitary but may form small groups during winter |
| Lifespan: | up to 15 years |
| IUCN Status: | LC – Least Concern |
