Asia; the mountain ranges of central and northeastern Afghanistan, China, north India, eastern Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, northeastern Uzbekistan, northern Pakistan, Russia, and Tajikistan 

Diet:

alpine grasses and herbs

Behaviour:

small groups that vary considerably in size, sometimes forming herds of over 100 animals, but more typically averaging 6 - 30 animals

Lifespan:

up to 15 - 17 years in the wild; over 22 years in human care
