Animals kept

Africa is situated in the tropical region with a large massive of rainfall forest in the equatorial region. A large part of this continent is covered with savannahs which change into a desert both in the north and south-west. In the utmost northern and southern parts of Africa, the climate shows subtropical characteristics. In Brno ZOO, a rich collection of African fauna is kept in capture, especially of predators, ungulates (antelopes above all but also zebras and giraffes), apes, birds and reptiles.

In the Brno zoological garden there are 785 animals belonging to 210 species of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We keep animals from all continents with the exception of Antarctica.
